The report titled ‘How Being Overweight Or Obese Affects Your Health,’ follows new information by the CDC that highlights the drastic increase in the prevalence of obesity from 30.5% in 1999-2000 to 41.9% in 2017-2020. Vitality Weight Loss Institute documents that obesity can cause several life-threatening conditions.
Body Mass Index (BMI) measures an individual’s weight in relation to their height. A person is considered overweight if their BMI is over 25 and obese if it is over 30.
In the new report, medical weight loss experts document that being overweight or obese can increase the risk of hypertension, diabetes, stroke, fatty liver disease, obstructive sleep apnea, and even some forms of cancer. Obesity increases the retention of sodium which raises arterial blood pressure. Arteries in the heart, brain, and kidneys are harmed by this elevated pressure. The higher a person’s BMI, the greater the energy required by the heart to pump blood against resistance. Vitality Weight Loss Institute confirms that medical weight loss is far more effective than certain drugs and losing 5-10% of body weight can lower systolic blood pressure by 10mm/Hg.
The Vitality Weight Loss Program includes a nutrition course, individualized meal plans, and behavioral therapy workshops. It is a nonsurgical, medical program tailored to a patient’s specific needs and lifestyle goals. Patients can also benefit from a 24/7 support group.
The Vitality Weight Loss and Wellness Institute was founded by Dr. Ruby Shah. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine and double board certified in internal medicine. She underwent extensive training and examinations for the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Obesity Medicine certifications.
A spokesperson for the company commented: “As well as being a weight loss center, the institute also provides nutrition education classes, telemedicine classes, exercise programs, and a psychology of eating course. Under expert weight loss care by a board-certified physician, patients can lose 2-5lbs per week. With the right support and personalized goals in place, the results can be positive and long-lasting.”
