Norwood, Massachusetts, October 5, 2026 -- Prize Possessions is looking ahead to its 50th anniversary in 2027, nearly five decades after Ginny Durfee and Sarah Foehl started the business in 1977 with an idea for better golf awards than the ones their husbands were winning.
The company began with a single phone line, a typewriter, a small engraving machine and a client list of 30. Its first order was an awards commission for a local golf club, work that set the direction for what would become a personalized recognition and gifts business. Rising demand through the 1980s led the company to move into a facility in Needham, Massachusetts, before later relocating to Norwood, where it remains based today. That year also saw typewriters give way to computers and the creation of a 20-page catalog.
Prize Possessions has continued to expand its personalization capabilities in the decades since. The company added laser engraving and airbrush color fill in 2003, expanded its glass etching capabilities in 2007, and introduced PrizeColor inkjet personalization in 2020. Alongside its awards and recognition items, the company now also offers custom collectibles and card printing, extending its personalization work beyond traditional trophies and plaques.
With expanding personalization and engraving techniques throughout the years, Prize Possessions was now positioned to be able to serve many other markets and industries outside of the golf world. Those industries include sailing, equestrian, trapshooting, sporting clays, polo, dog shows, tennis, the collegiate market, and collectible card services.
