Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski set a World Series speed record with his opening delivery in Game 1 against the Tampa Bay Rays. Statcast measured the pitch to Yandy Diaz at 103.5 mph, the fastest recorded in World Series play. Milwaukee went on to win 3-2.

Diaz did not swing at the record-setting delivery, which was called a ball. He later flied out to deep right. The previous speed record belonged to Aroldis Chapman, who established it while pitching for the Chicago Cubs during the 2016 Series.

Misiorowski finished his outing after five innings, giving up four hits and one run while striking out four. The performance brought his postseason ERA down to 2.70.

The opening pitch followed a season in which Misiorowski delivered 1,115 pitches above 100 mph. That total set a league record and was double the previous mark, adding another velocity milestone to his season.
