49ers agree to bring back DeForest Buckner in trade with Colts
Indianapolis will receive a 2027 fourth-round pick for the defensive lineman, according to multiple reports.

San Francisco has agreed to a trade that would reunite the 49ers with defensive lineman DeForest Buckner, according to multiple reports. The Colts will get a 2027 fourth-round pick in return, bringing Buckner back to the team that traded him to Indianapolis in 2020.
Now playing his 11th season, Buckner has recorded 4.0 sacks, eight QB hits and four tackles for loss in 2026. His season totals also include a fumble recovery and three passes defensed. His contract is expiring.
San Francisco selected Buckner from Oregon with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2016 draft. He spent his first four seasons with the 49ers, posting 12.0 sacks in 2018 and 7.5 in 2019, when he helped the team reach Super Bowl LIV. Indianapolis signed him to a long-term second contract after acquiring him.
Across 158 career appearances, Buckner has accumulated 196 QB hits, 75.5 sacks and 101 tackles for loss. The agreement follows another Colts trade that sent guard Quenton Nelson to the Seahawks earlier the same day.
