CAF abandons plan to move AFCON to four-year schedule
The next tournament will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in 2027.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reversed its decision to reduce the frequency of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The tournament will continue to take place every two years.
CAF linked the reversal to the time needed for its new Africa Nations League to make a substantial financial contribution. It said that would take several years, with the resources needed to help CAF competitions and African football compete globally and support themselves financially.
The Africa Nations League was announced as a biennial competition alongside the proposed four-year AFCON schedule. CAF had said the AFCON change would align it with European club fixtures, following difficulties fitting its two-year cycle into the international football calendar.
Hosting duties for the next AFCON, in 2027, will be shared by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
