Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expects Declan Rice to agree to a contract extension soon, saying discussions with the England midfielder have shown his desire to stay. Arteta addressed the negotiations at a press conference before the Liverpool match.

In comments carried by The Mirror, Arteta described Rice as happy at Arsenal and indicated that completing an agreement was a question of timing. Fabrizio Romano had reported in October that the club was nearing a deal.

The 27-year-old joined Arsenal from West Ham United in 2023 and has yet to change the terms of his original agreement. His existing deal runs until summer 2028, with the club holding an option for a further year.

Rice has contributed 22 goals and 35 assists in 170 appearances for Arsenal. That record includes four assists across eight Premier League outings in 2026-27. He also received Arsenal's Player of the Season award in both of the past two campaigns and placed 15th in the 2026 men's Ballon d'Or vote.
