Barcelona have reportedly approached Piero Hincapie’s representatives about a possible January transfer as they look to recruit a central defender. Actualite Barca, whose reporting was relayed by Sport, identified the Arsenal player as a target.

Sporting director Deco is said to have initiated discussions to establish whether Hincapie would consider moving. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick reportedly favors his ability to operate both centrally and at left-back.

The 24-year-old joined Arsenal permanently for £34 million last summer following a loan spell. He has started twice in seven appearances this season, despite William Saliba’s absence from the beginning of the campaign.

The report says Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta values Hincapie even though he does not regard him as a regular starter, and would be reluctant to approve a mid-season departure. Arsenal would reportedly demand at least £34 million to avoid a loss, with that price described as a financial obstacle for Barcelona.
