Brewers beat Rays 3-2 in World Series opener after replay delays finish
William Contreras went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Trevor Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca after an apparent game-ending double play was overturned.

Milwaukee won the World Series opener against Tampa Bay 3-2 at American Family Field, but only after a replay review interrupted its celebrations. Trevor Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca with two runners in scoring position to secure the victory before a crowd of 43,350.
The Brewers had already rushed onto the field and fireworks had gone off when Rays manager Kevin Cash requested a review of an apparent double play on a Liam Hicks grounder. Replay showed that Cooper Pratt’s foot had left second base before he received the throw, leaving Junior Caminero safe. Megill resumed with two outs and runners at second and third.
William Contreras contributed at the plate and behind it. He went 2-for-3, drew a walk and drove in a run. He also threw out runners at second and third to halt separate Tampa Bay rallies and successfully challenged two ball calls, turning them into strikes. Christian Yelich said Contreras had raised his performance during the postseason.
Milwaukee’s pitchers held the Rays to two runs on seven hits. Aaron Ashby struck out three batters and has now pitched 14 scoreless innings during the postseason. Yelich highlighted the left-hander’s ability to work multiple innings and handle different situations out of the bullpen.
