Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick declined to criticize Lisandro Martinez following the defender's dismissal in a 2-0 Premier League defeat at Chelsea. Asked by TNT Sports whether he felt let down by Martinez, Carrick answered: "No".

Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer scored at Stamford Bridge as United went a ninth consecutive match without a win across all competitions. Carrick said he had not reviewed the incident that led to Martinez being sent off.

Martinez received his first booking shortly before the hour mark, then collected another after an elbow-first collision with Wesley Fofana during a corner. Referee Peter Bankes checked the pitchside monitor before showing the second yellow card. Palmer scored the subsequent penalty, extending Chelsea's advantage.

The defender will serve a one-game suspension and miss United's home fixture against Aston Villa. Carrick also said he expected to remain in charge for United's Champions League match against Roma.
