Carrick says he has Manchester United's backing despite poor start
United have won two of their first nine matches, with five defenders unavailable for their Champions League meeting with Como.

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick said he remained supported by the club's board despite a start to the 2026-27 campaign that has brought two wins in nine matches. He was speaking before United's Champions League fixture against Como.
At his October 20 press conference, Carrick said he did not require reassurance about his position and understood his responsibility to improve results. He described his relationships within the club as good and said there were no problems on that front.
United sit 13th in the Premier League after collecting seven points from seven matches. They trail Liverpool, who are fifth, by five points. Carrick led United to third place in the league last season.
Carrick attributed some of the contrast with last season to narrow margins in matches. He acknowledged areas needing improvement but said he did not believe the team had a major problem and remained confident the squad could produce a winning run.
United's only clean sheet this season came against Sabah in the Champions League. Carrick acknowledged the need to improve defensively, including at set pieces. For the Como match, United will be without five defenders: Patrick Dorgu, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven.
