Chandler Smith wins at Martinsville as Riggs cuts Honeycutt's lead
Layne Riggs trails Kaden Honeycutt by 20 points ahead of the Nov. 6 Truck Series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Chandler Smith claimed his third NASCAR Truck Series victory of the season at Martinsville Speedway, passing Front Row Motorsports teammate Layne Riggs on the final restart. Riggs finished third and narrowed Kaden Honeycutt's championship advantage from 43 points to 20.
Riggs won both stages and recorded the fastest lap in the Black's Tire 200. Victory would have put him one point ahead of Honeycutt, but Smith took the lead using the outside lane when racing resumed for the last time.
Honeycutt lost positions following contact with Tristan McKee on that restart and finished 14th. He heads into the Nov. 6 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway with Riggs still in title contention.
Ben Rhodes took second, while Ty Majeski finished fourth behind Riggs. McKee, who became the youngest driver to claim a Truck Series pole, completed the top five.
The victory lifted Smith to third in the standings, although he and all drivers ranked below the leading pair have been eliminated from the championship race. Smith, 24, will leave Front Row Motorsports and the Truck Series after the season to join Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series in 2027.
