The Chargers announced that defensive back Derwin James has been placed on injured reserve, ruling him out until at least Nov. 29. A hamstring injury has already kept him out of four games, and his last appearance was Sept. 27.

Coach Jim Harbaugh said James had suffered a setback during rehabilitation. The five-time Pro Bowler has appeared in three games this season, recording a pass defensed along with 21 tackles.

To fill the roster spot, the Chargers promoted cornerback Isas Waxter from their practice squad. Across two games this season, Waxter has recorded two tackles while logging 17 snaps on defense and another 19 on special teams.

The team also elevated practice-squad cornerback Kaiir Elam for Sunday’s game. Elam has yet to make an appearance this season, but he has played in 43 games over his five seasons.
