Chelsea reportedly consider Alexander-Arnold move with Alonso's backing
The Real Madrid defender has made six appearances this season, while Chelsea captain Reece James could miss around three months after knee surgery.

Chelsea are willing to investigate a move for Real Madrid defender Trent Alexander-Arnold if he becomes available, according to journalist Simon Phillips. Manager Xabi Alonso reportedly supports signing the 28-year-old England international, whom he previously coached in Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold has struggled for playing time under Jose Mourinho, recording six appearances across all competitions this season and one assist. He was an unused substitute when Madrid beat Sevilla 4-1, with Federico Valverde selected at right-back instead.
Chelsea's interest comes as captain Reece James recovers from knee surgery. Current estimates suggest he could be unavailable for around three months. Alonso also has Malo Gusto and Marco Palestra as options on the right and has used Pedro Neto there in some matches.
Reports suggest Alexander-Arnold is considering his future because of his limited opportunities, although he remains happy in Madrid. His contract runs until June 2031. Madrid are not actively seeking a buyer but reportedly could consider letting him leave for a suitable offer.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City are also reportedly following his situation. Alexander-Arnold departed Liverpool in the summer of 2025 following nine first-team seasons. There is no confirmation that Chelsea have begun talks with Madrid or are preparing a formal bid.
