Chelsea head to Anfield for an EFL Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool seeking to preserve a cup record stretching back 19 years. They have avoided defeat in four cup visits since losing there in 2007.

That 1-0 Champions League defeat featured Xabi Alonso in Liverpool's lineup. Chelsea's subsequent cup trips have produced two draws and two victories. The most recent meeting in that sequence was in 2018, when Maurizio Sarri's side overturned a one-goal deficit to win 2-1, with Eden Hazard scoring the late winner.

Chelsea enter the tie following a defeat by Tottenham Hotspur and will be without the suspended Cole Palmer. They also recently beat Everton 2-0 on Merseyside, but their last Premier League victory at Anfield remains March 2021.

Liverpool hold a two-point league advantage over Chelsea. Under Andoni Iraola, they have lost only to Manchester City, a match in which Liverpool had 10 men, and won eight of their other 11 games.
