Yan Diomande helped Real Madrid secure a 4-1 Champions League victory over his former club Leipzig, creating a goal for Kylian Mbappe and scoring after coming off the bench in the 70th minute.

The Ivory Coast international supplied Mbappe’s goal in the 83rd minute, then converted a cross from Brahim Diaz in the 87th. The performance brought the 19-year-old’s return over his last four matches to three goals and three assists.

Diomande became Real Madrid’s youngest substitute to register both a goal and an assist in a Champions League game. According to Opta, he was also the youngest African player to accomplish that feat since Nigeria’s Obafemi Martins did so for Inter Milan against Arsenal in September 2003.

His contribution followed a goal in Madrid’s 4-1 La Liga victory over Sevilla on 18 October. After the Leipzig match, Mbappe offered Diomande his man of the match trophy, but the teenager declined. Madrid next faces Barcelona in El Clasico on Sunday.
