Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso said Emmanuel Emegha could make his debut in the EFL Cup fourth-round match at Liverpool, but stressed that he must feel fully fit before playing. Chelsea travels to Anfield following a Premier League loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

Alonso expressed his eagerness to use the former Strasbourg player while making clear that he would not rush him. He said Emegha's recent training had helped establish a fitness base and that the team wanted to introduce him gradually.

At his press conference, Alonso also confirmed that Joao Pedro would miss at least a few weeks. Danny Welbeck came on only in the closing stages against Tottenham rather than starting in Pedro's place. After Liverpool, Chelsea faces Man United and Sunderland.
