Dermot Gallagher, a former Premier League official, believes Morgan Rogers and Harrison Armstrong were lucky to remain on the pitch during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

On Sky Sports News’ Ref Watch, Gallagher discussed Chelsea attacker Rogers’ lunge at James Garner while already carrying a yellow card. The referee did not penalize the challenge. Gallagher considered it near the threshold for a straight red and said VAR could not intervene to recommend a second booking.

Gallagher pointed to footage showing Rogers leaping into the challenge, although he also noted that the assistant referee had observed both players lunging. He said the decision to let play continue helped Rogers avoid punishment.

Everton’s Armstrong made a slightly less forceful challenge on Josh Acheampong, in Gallagher’s assessment. He said Armstrong benefited because the contact came from his shin, arguing that contact with studs and a straight leg would have brought a dismissal.

Pedro Neto scored twice for Chelsea, whose victory took them into fourth place in the Premier League.
