The New York Giants are releasing running back Najee Harris, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The move follows Harris’s public concerns about his limited involvement in the team’s rushing attack.

Harris made five appearances for New York, starting once and gaining 99 yards on 31 rushing attempts. During the loss to the Saints, he played 11 snaps and carried four times for two yards, despite earlier reporting that he was expected to have a bigger role.

Discussing his usage, Harris said sporadic opportunities made it difficult to establish a rhythm or adjust to the defense. He described being removed for a series after getting a play and said the situation was unfamiliar to him.

Harris’s contract covers one year at US$1.215 million. Selected in the first round in 2021, he rushed for 1,000 yards in each of four consecutive seasons with Pittsburgh.

His 2025 stint with the Chargers lasted only three games before he tore an Achilles tendon. That injury followed an offseason fireworks mishap.
