Receiver Jauan Jennings opted to remain with the Vikings after discussing a possible return to the 49ers, coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed on November 4. Shanahan said he accepted Jennings’ preference after hearing how happy the player was in Minnesota.

Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer had reported that the teams reached a deal before Jennings chose to stay. Shanahan said that account was broadly accurate, but said the details of how the discussions developed needed clarification.

According to Shanahan, the 49ers wanted to speak with Jennings before proceeding. He said restrictions on contacting another team’s players meant the clubs first needed to reach enough agreement to allow that conversation.

Shanahan said their FaceTime discussion was positive and Jennings did not immediately reject the possibility. But the receiver expressed satisfaction with his situation, and the move did not happen. Jennings has six receptions for 54 yards across six games for Minnesota.
