Manchester City are leading the pursuit of Borussia Dortmund attacker Mathis Albert, according to TEAMtalk, with the German club resisting interest in the 17-year-old American. City reportedly approached Dortmund formally during the summer transfer window.

The report said City had been willing to match Dortmund's asking price of about €20 million (£17 million), while Chelsea were prepared to pay a similar sum. Arsenal and Liverpool have also been following Albert, and Paris Saint-Germain made enquiries in 2025. City are reportedly willing to offer personal terms aimed at persuading him to move.

Dortmund have turned down approaches for Albert, including requests for a loan, and have prepared a contract extension offer, according to the report. Premier League rules prevent a permanent signing before his 18th birthday in May, putting any prospective move on a summer timetable.

Albert joined Dortmund from LA Galaxy's academy in 2024. He became the Bundesliga's youngest American player when he appeared against Freiburg at 16 years, 11 months and five days, breaking Gio Reyna's record in a match Dortmund won 4-0. He has also played and scored for the senior United States team.
