Mayfield expected to resume practice as Buccaneers weigh quarterback options
A dislocated right thumb has sidelined Baker Mayfield for three consecutive games, with Jalon Daniels starting in his place.

Baker Mayfield is expected to return to practice Wednesday, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said, but the team has yet to decide who will start at quarterback against Carolina. Mayfield has missed three consecutive games because of a dislocated right thumb.
The injury occurred in Week 3 and has prevented Mayfield from practicing since then. He has since tested his throwing ability. Bowles said coaches would assess Mayfield at practice and monitor his progress before settling on a starter.
Jalon Daniels has handled the starting role during Mayfield’s absence, with the Buccaneers posting a 1-2 record in those games. Bowles said the game plan would account for the unresolved quarterback situation and that both players would participate in meetings.
In the overtime defeat against the Steelers, Daniels finished 22-of-43 for 164 yards. He threw for a touchdown and had two passes intercepted in the most recent game Mayfield missed.
