The Cardinals are turning to Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback, head coach Mike LaFleur announced on November 2. The decision follows Minshew’s comeback win against the Cowboys. Carson Beck takes the backup spot, leaving Jacoby Brissett as the emergency third quarterback.

Minshew’s season debut produced three touchdown passes and 188 yards, with 17-of-23 passes completed. His next start is scheduled for Sunday afternoon against the Seahawks in Seattle.

LaFleur linked Beck’s move to the rookie’s development, saying the role would allow him more scout-team repetitions. He said Beck was feeling good but continued to describe his status as week-to-week.

Brissett lost his place on Sunday after a performance of 10-of-23 passing for 119 yards and an interception. His eight-game season totals stand at 1,719 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions, with 63.3 percent of his passes completed.

Asked whether Brissett would stay with the Cardinals past the Nov. 10 trade deadline, LaFleur offered no direct answer. He instead emphasized his focus on the current week and said Brissett remained part of the team.
