Green Bay turned to John Williams at center against the Lions after injuries forced Sean Rhyan and his replacement, Jacob Monk, off the field. The Packers designated both injured players as questionable to return, with Rhyan dealing with an ankle injury and Monk a quadriceps injury.

Williams entered for the second offensive series without any game experience snapping the ball, even during preseason. That possession produced a touchdown: Green Bay covered 74 yards over 12 plays before Jordan Love connected with Tucker Kraft for a 14-yard score, making it 7-7.

Rhyan's left ankle was rolled over from behind by running back Josh Jacobs and Detroit edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson. Monk briefly took over; he had previously lost the starting role at right guard after three games.

Love's passing figures stood at 10-of-14, with 122 yards and one touchdown. Earlier, rookie kicker Trey Smack had missed from 26 yards, leaving the Packers without points on their opening possession.
