Panthers' run defense ranks last in NFL after 43-13 loss
Carolina is allowing 153.2 rushing yards per game and 5.2 yards per carry, the highest averages in the league.

Carolina linebacker Bobby Okereke warned that opponents could exploit the Panthers’ defensive weaknesses after Tampa Bay won their matchup 43-13. The Panthers have the NFL’s worst rushing defense despite holding first place in the NFC South at 3-3.
Carolina is the league’s only team conceding more than 150 rushing yards per game, with an average of 153.2. It is also alone in allowing more than five yards per carry, at 5.2. The problems extend back to Week 1, when Chicago rushed for 291 yards against the Panthers. That game and the Tampa Bay defeat are the only instances this season of an NFL defense allowing at least 250 rushing yards.
Bucky Irving led Tampa Bay’s rushing attack with 106 yards on 24 carries. Kenny Gainwell gained 88 yards from 14 attempts, while Sean Tucker added 52 yards on seven carries. Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield finished with just 64 passing yards.
Okereke said Tampa Bay’s opening touchdown possession, which covered 70 yards over 14 plays, established the pattern for the game. Speaking to Panthers.com’s Kassidy Hill, he said other teams would study the footage and attempt to exploit the same defensive weaknesses.
