Sidney Crosby became the NHL record holder for assists with a single franchise when his Pittsburgh Penguins total reached 1,112 against the Montreal Canadiens. The milestone came at the Bell Centre on October 31, 2026, moving him past Ray Bourque.

Crosby supplied the record-setting assist as defenseman Erik Karlsson scored on a power play in the opening period, giving Pittsburgh its first goal. His assist total subsequently reached 1,113 during that period.

The 39-year-old Penguins captain has built his tally over 22 seasons, all with Pittsburgh. Bourque amassed 1,111 assists during 21 seasons with the Bruins. Crosby also advanced to sixth in the NHL’s career assist rankings, leaving him 22 behind Paul Coffey. Wayne Gretzky leads that category with 1,963.

Across his opening 14 games of the season, Crosby had five assists and three goals. He finished the previous season with 74 points from 68 appearances, comprising 45 assists and 29 goals.
