Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford said learning that receiver Davante Adams will miss most of the remaining season hurt on a personal level, and he wants fans to recognize the consequences of injuries beyond changes to their fantasy football lineups.

Stafford said his concern centers on teammates who have spent eight months preparing for an opportunity to play, only to be unable to take part. Knowing the effort they put into their preparation makes their absence painful for him, he said.

Those absences are also motivating Stafford to perform well and help the Rams keep winning. He said he wants the team to remain in playoff contention so that Adams, Myles Garrett and other injured teammates could return to games that matter if they are able to play again.

Speaking about Adams, Stafford said he knows how hard the receiver works to be available for the team and how upset he is when he cannot play.
