Steichen backs Jones as Colts fall to 2-5
The Colts coach said a quarterback switch had not been considered after Daniel Jones threw a late interception in a 16-10 loss to Minnesota.

Indianapolis coach Shane Steichen maintained his backing for quarterback Daniel Jones after the Colts lost 16-10 to the Vikings, leaving their record at 2-5. Steichen said replacing Jones had not been under consideration.
Jones completed 13-of-22 passes for 108 yards, with one interception. His final turnover came with 1:08 left, when Vikings defensive back Harrison Smith intercepted a pass intended for tight end Will Mallory and ended the Colts’ comeback hopes.
In postgame remarks relayed by James Boyd of TheAthletic.com, Steichen emphasized his confidence in Jones. He said the offense had planned to emphasize the running game and acknowledged the interception at the end.
Jones has seven interceptions against four touchdown passes this season. Indianapolis awarded him a US$88 million extension for two years during the offseason as he was coming back from a torn right Achilles.
The Colts’ backup options are Anthony Richardson, whom they selected in the first round in 2023, and Riley Leonard.
