Sunderland defender Kevin Danso received a straight red card after 17 minutes against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on October 18, 2026. The Premier League said VAR upheld referee Craig Pawson's decision because Danso had denied Evanilson a clear opportunity to score.

The incident followed a long pass forward that Danso failed to control. Evanilson took possession and was through against Robin Roefs when the defender pulled him down. In an explanation posted on X, the Premier League Match Centre said the VAR review confirmed the foul occurred outside the penalty area.

The dismissal means Danso will serve a one-game suspension, missing Sunderland's home fixture against Leeds United. He remains eligible for the Europa League meeting with Lech Poznan.

The 28-year-old Austrian, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, had partnered Omar Alderete in defense. It was his fifth consecutive Premier League start for Regis Le Bris's side.
