Didier Deschamps would reportedly want commitments on transfer spending and time to improve Manchester United's squad before discussing their managerial position. United have explored appointing him if they choose to dismiss Michael Carrick.

According to TEAMtalk, people close to the 58-year-old have signaled that persuading him to accept the role would be difficult. His reported reservations concern recruitment, the squad's makeup and relations between the board and fans.

Carrick is facing scrutiny with United in 17th place in the Premier League. The club have reportedly made contact with Deschamps, but an appointment is not considered imminent.

Deschamps guided France to victory at the 2018 World Cup and departed as national coach after the 2026 tournament. He is unemployed and is understood to be receptive to club management again after earlier spells with AS Monaco, Juventus and Marseille.

Former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe remains the favorite, while former Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has support within United. Unai Emery was also an option, but he has agreed to a new Aston Villa contract.
