Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons has been placed on injured reserve with a bulging disc in his back, following a reported disagreement with head coach Andy Reid during an offensive meeting. Simmons must sit out at least four games.

Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported that Reid asked Simmons to lower his feet during the meeting. Simmons, who had been dealing with a back problem, said his back and hips hurt and required that position.

According to the report, Reid directed Simmons to seek treatment, but the argument continued until quarterback Patrick Mahomes intervened and repeated that instruction. Simmons departed the meeting without leaving the facility and subsequently apologized to Reid and team leadership.

The Chiefs initially attributed Simmons' practice absence to both his back and personal reasons. Rick Burkholder, Kansas City's vice president of sports medicine and performance, said the personal time allowed Simmons to talk with his family about rehabilitation.

Simmons has been out since August. Undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson has played in his place this season, receiving a 65.6 grade from Pro Football Focus over his first five games.
