Chelsea have won only two of the clubs’ last 17 Premier League meetings, despite sitting six points and 11 places above United.

Manchester United face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on October 31 knowing another loss by at least three goals would leave them with three consecutive defeats of that margin for the first time since 1961. United enter the Premier League fixture after losing 4-1 to Como and 3-0 to Bournemouth.

Victory would instead give United a sequence of three league wins against Chelsea for the first time since 1965. Carrick is also trying to avoid becoming the club’s first manager since 1988 to endure nine games without a victory across all competitions.

Chelsea, meanwhile, lost to Tottenham Hotspur in their latest league outing. Across the tenures of three managers, they have recorded 11 Premier League defeats since the start of March, the highest total in that period.

Both of Chelsea’s previous home league fixtures on October 31 ended in defeat: Sheffield United won 2-1 in 1992-93, while Liverpool won 3-1 in 2015-16. Chelsea have recorded just one Premier League clean sheet since February; United have none in the 2026-27 league campaign.
