Nebraska fires Dana Holgorsen after fourth straight loss
Glenn Thomas will assume play-calling responsibilities after Nebraska's 24-13 defeat to Illinois left the Cornhuskers at 5-4.

Nebraska announced the dismissal of offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen on November 7, 2026, following a 24-13 loss to Illinois. The decision ends his three-season tenure with the Cornhuskers, who have lost four consecutive games.
Head coach Matt Rhule said in a statement that Nebraska needed a change because its offensive approach and execution were not working. Glenn Thomas, the team's quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator, will take responsibility for calling plays.
The defeat against Illinois left Nebraska with a 5-4 record. The Cornhuskers scored fewer than 20 points in each game during the four-game losing streak. Rhule expressed anger, disappointment and frustration over the season's results, while acknowledging that problems extended beyond the offense.
Holgorsen, 55, joined Rhule's Nebraska staff in 2024 after previously leading West Virginia and Houston as head coach. Despite dismissing him, Rhule praised Holgorsen's offensive knowledge and leadership and credited his contributions to Nebraska.
