North Carolina improved to 5-4 by defeating Connecticut 38-21, leaving coach Bill Belichick’s team needing one more victory for bowl eligibility. The Tar Heels have three games remaining.

Quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. supplied three touchdown passes in the win, while North Carolina turned three Connecticut turnovers into 21 points. The result halted a run of two consecutive defeats.

The matchup marked Belichick’s return to New England for a game for the first time since the Patriots fired him following the 2023 season. He is in his second season coaching at the college level and has an overall record of 9-12.

North Carolina’s remaining schedule starts with Louisville, which is 6-3, followed by Virginia and NC State. Both Virginia and NC State have 4-5 records.
