Ayden Heaven was left out of Manchester United's squad for the match against Leeds United at Elland Road, with Steven Railston reporting that illness had ruled out the defender. His absence added to Michael Carrick's defensive concerns, with Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu unavailable through injury.

Carrick selected Diogo Dalot on the left of the defense and Leny Yoro on the right. Harry Maguire partnered Lisandro Martinez in the center, ahead of goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Harry Amass were among the substitutes.

Heaven, 20, had started at left-back against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, playing 80 minutes before Maguire replaced him in the 2-0 defeat. He is also doubtful for United's Champions League meeting with Como, while his availability against Bournemouth remains uncertain.

Separately, journalist Samuel Luckhurst reported that medical staff gave midfielder Carlos Baleba a couple of tablets before kickoff. Baleba was named to start alongside Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. A United staff member was also reported to have become unwell in Madrid, though no wider impact on the squad was reported.
