Barcelona are considering bringing in a center-back in January, head coach Hansi Flick said, with injuries limiting his defensive choices. He said a possible addition had been discussed with sporting director Deco, football coordinator Bojan and his coaching staff, but made no commitment to a signing.

Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Xavi Espart are sidelined. That leaves Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin as the only experienced first-team options in central defense, although Frenkie de Jong and Rodri can provide emergency cover.

The discussion comes after Barcelona lost 4-2 to Paris Saint-Germain in Champions League action and then suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Real Madrid in La Liga. Their league record this season includes 40 goals scored and 11 conceded.

Speaking before the Alaves match, Flick said responsibility for defending extended throughout the team. He pointed to possession lost too easily against Real Madrid and called for greater concentration and closer marking inside the penalty area. He said the players were working on those problems in training.
