Emery reports progress in Aston Villa contract discussions
The Villa manager described a positive meeting with chairman Nassef Sawiris as he considers extending his deal beyond 2029.

Unai Emery has given an encouraging assessment of talks about extending his Aston Villa contract beyond 2029, saying he hopes to turn discussions with chairman Nassef Sawiris into an agreement.
Speaking to reporters before Villa's Premier League meeting with Manchester United, the 54-year-old manager said maintaining consistent progress was central to his vision. Villa have also confirmed extensive discussions with Emery about the club's long-term direction.
Emery pointed to the decision to build an additional stand at Villa Park as evidence of that commitment. He said European competition, player development and transfers were helping the club increase revenue and its budget, with sales supporting the recruitment of talented young players.
Emery has ruled out replacing Michael Carrick at United. His Villa team enters the fixture winless in three games across all competitions and four points behind fourth place. United, who beat Roma, would move within two points of Villa with a victory.
