Anthony Gordon says he must look for more scoring opportunities rather than passing as he adjusts to Barcelona. Speaking before the club’s Champions League meeting with Aston Villa on Tuesday, the England winger said his performances had not yet reached their potential.

The 25-year-old joined from Newcastle United in May for around £68 million (€80 million) and has established himself on the left of Hansi Flick’s attack. Gordon said he sometimes passes too often and needs to contribute more goals, with winning trophies his priority.

Barcelona have registered 57 goals across 14 matches this season. Gordon has contributed three, while Raphinha has scored 17 and Lamine Yamal 12. The La Liga leaders are seeking direct qualification for the Champions League’s last 16, with the Villa fixture coming on the competition’s fourth matchday.

Asked to grade his first 13 appearances, Gordon gave himself seven or 7.5. He said he had begun well despite changing clubs and countries, but needed more time to settle fully before supporters would see his best football.
