Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak said performance would guide the allocation of backfield opportunities after Mike Washington played more snaps than Ashton Jeanty in Week 8. Kubiak said the team had not settled on a permanent arrangement.

Washington rushed for 83 yards on 25 attempts as the Raiders won following four consecutive losses. Jeanty carried twice and was used mainly in passing situations, contributing a 45-yard reception.

Kubiak attributed Washington’s increased involvement to his performance in practice, rather than Jeanty’s limited rushing production. Speaking at a press conference, the coach said roles could shift throughout the 17-game regular season as the team gives opportunities to players on its young roster.

Jeanty, selected sixth overall in 2025, still leads the Raiders’ running backs in snaps this season. He averaged just over three yards per carry through the opening seven games before Washington took the larger role in Week 8.
