Connor Hellebuyck stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced in his first appearance for New Jersey, helping the Devils beat the Dallas Stars 5-1. The 33-year-old joined New Jersey in an Oct. 23 trade after playing for the Winnipeg Jets.

New Jersey limited Dallas to six shots during the opening period. Hellebuyck turned each one aside, and the Devils took a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission before scoring twice more in the second period.

Dallas center Justin Hryckowian ended Hellebuyck's shutout bid when a deflection produced the Stars' only goal. Defenseman Luke Hughes answered seconds later, putting New Jersey ahead 4-1 and restoring its three-goal cushion.

Hellebuyck kept Dallas off the scoreboard throughout the third period. Jack Hughes, Luke's brother, added his fourth goal of the season to complete the scoring and give the goaltender a victory in his Devils debut.
