Cristiano Ronaldo announces retirement from Portugal duty
The 41-year-old leaves international football with 234 appearances and 146 goals. Portugal's federation plans to organize a tribute.

Cristiano Ronaldo has ended his international career after 23 years representing Portugal, announcing the decision in an Instagram video. The Al-Nassr forward, 41, said it was difficult to step away from the national team he first represented in August 2003.
His departure follows a dispute with Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus during the September/October international break. After being told he would not start against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League, Ronaldo left the squad's camp. The Portuguese FA imposed a 30-day suspension and a €255 fine.
Ronaldo finishes with men's international records of 234 caps, 146 goals and 141 victories. His honors with Portugal include Euro 2016 and two Nations League titles. His last appearance was September's 1-0 Nations League win over Wales; his final goal came on a penalty in July's 2-1 victory over Croatia at the 2026 World Cup.
In his farewell message, Ronaldo thanked his teammates, coaches, family and fans. The Portuguese Football Federation expressed gratitude for his contribution and said it intends to arrange a tribute allowing supporters to celebrate his career.
Ronaldo will miss Portugal's November matches against Denmark and Wales. He will concentrate on playing for Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, with his career tally standing at 985 goals across all competitions as he pursues 1,000.
