Manchester City are reportedly interested in Borussia Dortmund’s 17-year-old Mathis Albert amid concerns over his limited playing opportunities. Dortmund sporting director Ole Book said the club has a plan to develop the American and expects him to get his chance.

Sky Sport Germany reported that Albert is growing frustrated with his lack of game time under manager Niko Kovac. He has made no Bundesliga appearances this season, despite having received his first minutes for the senior United States team.

A possible offer of €20 million (£17 million) has been mentioned in connection with City’s interest. Book, meanwhile, said Albert still needs to develop all parts of his game and highlighted his ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations.

Albert joined Dortmund from Los Angeles Galaxy in 2024. His Bundesliga debut at 16 made him the competition’s youngest American player, surpassing Christian Pulisic’s record. He has also appeared for Dortmund against HEBC Hamburg in the German Cup.
